I came across a couple articles thanks to the good people at EnnisJack.com. The first one is from Out.com and features first and foremost a breathtaking photo of Trevor Wright and Brad Rowe that I like to think of as Zach and Shaun's wedding photo. Love all the points of contact Trevor makes - foot, knee, elbow (!) - despite the fact that Brad has his back to him. I also love Trevor's quote at the end in regards to acting in the intimate scenes: “I saw his eyes, and they were Brad’s, and that was that.” Sweet ... The second article is a somewhat snotty review from Slant Magazine of the DVD but the good news is that it does have some extras such as a commentary track with Jonah Markowitz, Trevor Wright and a chatty Brad Rowe.
The links for all of the above have been added to the Link list. Enjoy!
ETA: Out.com has removed the pictured I referred to so I'm going to post it here. It's too sweet to keep hidden away.

That has got to be the sweetest thing I've ever read. :D
And I'd been iffy about when I was going to actually get the DVD, but now? Good Lord. Chatty Brad? Trevor? And Jonah? Oh yes, you know I have to have it now. I think the Chatty Brad clinches it for me. :D

Date: 2008-05-26 04:28 pm (UTC)Isn't it? I melted. Just melted. It also goes a long way towards explaining the wealth of intimacy between Zach and Shaun. Trevor and Brad obviously shared a similar connection and felt very ... safe (for lack of a better word) playing that out.
I would have bought the DVD even if it was a bare bones production but chatty Brad works for me, too.
::stares at picture some more::

Date: 2008-05-26 04:31 pm (UTC)It really does. I mean, it's one thing to know they are good friends and stuff, but to see something as completely undeniable as that? Just makes it so very sweet.
And safe sums it up pretty damn well.
Oh definitely getting the DVD. It's just a matter of when. I'm not sure anyone around here is going to carry it so it depends on when I can get it ordered. AGRH

Date: 2008-05-26 04:26 pm (UTC)I'm pretty sure they just wanted less clothes or waaay more dramatic angsty Hollywood-ness so clearly they can just be ignored.
They clearly cannot understand the joys of subtlety. More's the pity for them.
And Trevor's friggin adorable in that first picture - (Weird how Brad is totally turned away though...)

Date: 2008-05-26 04:41 pm (UTC)So true! I guess some people want their entertainment fed to them in a sippy-cup. I don't think I'm the only one who enjoys the refreshing amount of affection and intimacy over jaded clichés.

Date: 2008-05-26 06:30 pm (UTC)My dvd is in the post apparently..but it's got to come to England from USA.... so I still have to wait. sob, sob. I want to hear that commentary so bad I can taste it.
I so agree with you all about the happy ending too. I wanted that so badly and loved it SO much that we actually got it. That is EXACTLY the reason I love this film so much. It's sweet, tender and BEAUTIFUL.

By the time I actually saw Shelter I already knew that it was going to have a happy ending but knowing and seeing it are two very different things. I had no idea that it was going to be a happy ending between two absolutely believable men in love. To steal Zach's phrase, every film should be so lucky.

Date: 2008-05-26 08:00 pm (UTC)Ive read that first article before, and I love that line you quoted. I think that's why the movie was as good as it was- they made a connection and they were able to use that connection when filming.
Love it. thanks for the post

Absolutely. There are lots of coming out films but what makes this one so distinctive is the unabashed affection and connection between Shaun and Zach. Brad and Trevor played that out so beautifully which is no small thing since getting along in real life doesn't always translate into onscreen chemistry. Happily, they seem to have both in abundance.

Date: 2008-05-26 08:31 pm (UTC)Can you believe I said the same thing as you when I saw that pic? Yeah, you can read it at Ennisjack. I said (and I think another Shelter girl too) that it looks that their wedding pic!! Oh my, I think I'm gonna cry!! That's so gorgeous, and they are there so sexy and marvelous!! **sigh**
I love Trevor's words about the intimate scenes. I just melted away first time I read it. He's so mature in his words but so sweet too.
Eileen, love your new avatar!! It's from my loved Lazy Days. You know what? I said over and over again in the forum that that is my favorite scene, just the one in your avatar. Zach kissing Shaun's chest, then Shaun's ear and then his neck. And then he rested his head in the hollow of Shaun's neck....Oh my...That's so erotic and sweet!! I'm so swooning...I'm a happy puddle in the floor!!!
Love yor page, baby. Thank you so much!!
