If I can chime in on the Gabe debate, I found Gabe to be rather adorable and funny. Gabe is a caveman. I know cavemen very well--lots of friends and family of the caveman sort. They aren't sensitive or emotive. They are brash and cover up feelings with grunts and inappropriate jokes. The t-shirts are totally Gabe's caveman way of coming around (supporting Zach and Shaun by visiting and staying over) while also diffusing the weirdness with inappropriate humor (the shirts are stupid, but they're his way of finding a "release" for his weird feelings).
