Welcome to Shelter Diner, a gathering place for fans of the watermark film Shelter starring Trevor Wright and Brad Rowe. There is so much about Shelter that warrants adoration and this is the place to let it all out. While the focus here is squarely on Zach and Shaun, posts can include discussion/meta, icons and other fan art, vids, fanfiction, links to reviews, story recs and more! Please read the rules on the community profile, and then start sharing the Shelter love. *g*

Shelter Diner is the mirror community to [livejournal.com profile] shelter_diner on LiveJournal. As of 4/10/17 the LJ comm has been imported to this DW comm. I do not have any plans to delete the LJ comm at this point; this move was precautionary only. You may post to either community, but please do not post to both. I will import the LJ community on a regular (though possibly infrequent since it’s been so quiet) basis and I would rather not have duplicate posts here.

If you have any questions you may ask them here or contact me at spikedluv @ dreamwidth.org.

Thank you.

I have created a mirror community on DW and have imported all entries. I am not closing this community, but I do want to make sure that we don't lose anything should LJ suddenly decide to divest itself of non-Cyrillic services or begin deleting journals.

You may post at either community, but please do not post to both. I will occasionally import new entries/comments/etc and I'd rather not have double entries at the DW community.

Thank you.

Hey folks! I just wanted to let everyone know what activities we have planned for the remainder of 2012, and also explain a couple of changes to our usual challenges. Yep, we’re shaking things up and doing something a bit different this year. *g*

Here’s the schedule of upcoming events:

July: Angst vs Schmoop Challenge (presuming we have enough people sign up)
August: Movie Re-Watch
September/October: Back-To-School Challenge
November: Movie Re-Watch
November/December: Holiday Fest

Back-To-School Challenge:

Instead of our usual Halloween Challenge, this year I’m moving the challenge up a month and since September normally sees everyone back in school, that’s what our challenge will be about. You can write about Cody’s first day of kindergarten, or what it’s like to be in high school. Zach’s first day of college, or the empty nest syndrome when he has to let Cody go off to college. Maybe Shaun has to deal with being home alone once his boys start school, or he goes back to college and teaches a creative writing course. Anything goes, so long as it has something to do with someone going back-to-school.

Holiday Fest:

To change things up a little bit I’d like to make this a true gift giving experience this year. Instead of submitting a bunch of prompts that people then fill, I’d like to do this more along the lines of the gifting memes I’ve seen floating around come holiday time.

Everyone who wants to participate in the Holiday Fest will submit a comment detailing up to five “gifts” that they’d like to receive. Someone else will create one of those gifts. You may only request up to five gifts, but you may fill as many gift requests as you want.

Here’s a sample gift request:

Name: Shelterluvr
Gift #1: A Zach/Shaun fanvid to [my favorite song]
Gfit #2: A Zach/Shaun fic using the prompt: family
Gift #3: A Zach/Shaun & Cody header (using photos that I will provide)
Gift #4: A Gabe/Tori fic: they both miss Zach
Gift #5: A Cody/OMC fic: Cody didn't know what Zach and Shaun saw in other dudes until...

To make things fun and fair for everyone participating, if you submit a gift request, you must be willing to fill at least one gift request. No asking for gifts without giving in return.

Next up is our Angst vs Schmoop Challenge! Look for the sign-up post on July 1.

I used to run an Angst vs Schmoop Challenge for Numb3rs (at [livejournal.com profile] numb3rswriteoff, if you’d like to see what it’s all about), the idea for which I borrowed from the SPN fandom, and I was wondering if there might be interest in having something like that for Shelter.

Thank you so much to everyone who participated in Valentine’s Day Fest 2011! Whether you submitted prompts or wrote fic or offered feedback, you helped make this Valentine’s Day weekend a special one.

Remember, you can find all the Fest submissions by clicking on the {challenge} !v-day fest 2011 tag.

Hope y’all enjoyed your Shelter-filled weekend! *g*

ETA: I also wanted to say that I'm thrilled with the number of submissions we received this year, and with how awesome they were. We have some pretty amazing authors and artists here.

Mod Note: Please remember to use descriptive subject lines. For example, if you posted fic, please include the 'Fic' designation in your subject line. This holds for fanart, discussion, picspam, etc. Thank you!

I am finally getting around to using the account I got at Archive of Our Own and have slowly been uploading my fic there. Now that I (sort of) know what I'm doing, I also made a collection to host all fanfic created for any Fest held here at [livejournal.com profile] shelter_diner, as well as a community tag for said fic.

If you archive your fic at AO3, please consider tagging your fic with the community tag, and labeling it with the community collection.

And already the moderating of new members has paid off. Just went to check out someone who'd requested to join and their account has already been suspended. \o/

Sorry if anyone has been inconvenienced by the new moderation of membership/posts, but it looks like we'll be doing it at least until LJ has figured out how to stop them. So, maybe forever?!! *g*

First order of business, thank you to everyone who contacted me about today's spammage. We'd been spared for the longest time, so I thought we were safe. Incorrectly, as it turned out. I was away from my computer so I couldn't do anything about it right away, but I have now deleted the most recent message (the other message was also removed the day it was posted) and removed the two spammers from the community.

Secondly, how to keep this from happening again. What I wanted to do was make all first posts moderated; of course the setting options offered by LJ aren't that specific. Then I waffled over moderating posting or moderating membership. I ended up doing both for the time being. Everyone who was already a member of the community has posting access, so this should not affect any of you, only new members. We'll see if that is correct when it's put into practice.

I'm sorry that your f-lists were hit with this spam; hopefully it won't happen again, at least not via this community.

In the past authors have posted to [livejournal.com profile] shelter_diner in search of a beta, and it has recently been suggested that a beta post might be helpful, so here it is!

If you are willing to beta, please copy and paste the following form into a comment to this post and fill it out. The more information you provide, the less likely you are to have someone ask you to beta a fic you’d prefer not to.

Please reserve this post for beta sign-ups only. If you have any questions about the comm, or signing up to be a beta, please ask them in the Q&A post.

For ease of finding this post later, it will be tagged as !beta sign-up post and !resource post.

Thank you!

Hello, remember me? o_O I wondered if anyone was interested in another Halloween Fest?

We could do prompts, like we did last year, or we could have it center around a couple of themes. Here are some examples off the top of my head:

Ghostly Encounters
It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown
Monsters Under the Bed
Sleepy Hollow
Trick or Treat

People would choose a theme for inspiration and interpret it however they wanted.

Please comment here so I can gauge interest, and let me know which way you’d rather do it. Also, if you have an idea for a theme comment here with it.

You may notice that there are fewer links in the Links section, which is because Shelter_Diner is no longer a paid account. I've moved all of the resource links, including articles, interviews, etc, to this post, which will be linked from the main page. All new resources will be added to this post, as well as tagged with the 'resource' tag.

Hello, everyone! I just wanted to pop in and thank you all for continuing to play with these boys and share your creations with us. I’m thrilled to see that people are still discovering Shelter and joining us here.

Also, I’ve been playing with the tags again; I’ve added an “actor-related” tag. I think I’ve tagged everything that should have that tag (picspam, icons, interviews, etc), but if I’ve missed something, let me know so I can tag it. (Or if it’s your very own post, go ahead and tag it yourself, if you want.)

As a quick reminder, please use subject lines that include the content of your post (fic, icons, etc), as well as a header. Use cut tags where appropriate, and please don’t link to locked posts. (The full set of rules isn’t much longer than this, and can be found on the community profile. *g*)

Thank you!

The fantabulous [livejournal.com profile] true_enough (who many of you will remember as the creator of this wonderful comm, and the gal who got a lot of us, me included, interested in checking out this movie) created a transcript of the movie. For future reference, it has been tagged as a 'resource' and also given its very own 'transcript' tag. In addition, I've linked to it in the links section on the main page so we can always find it when we need it. *g*

Also, even though our St. Patty's Day Challenge didn't call for any prompts, a couple people have thrown some out there for us. So if you want to toss out a prompt or see what other people are suggesting, go here and check it out. *g*

Hey, everyone! I know there’s a lot going on over the holidays, Yuletide and Small Fandoms Fest being only two of the multi-fandom fests out there, not to mention the ton of fandom-specific holiday exchanges that everyone’s probably signed up for, but I wanted to gauge interest in a Shelter-specific holiday fest.

My first thought is to do it as a prompt-type fest rather than an exchange-type challenge, where everyone in the fandom is the recipient of the ‘gift’ rather than just one person, and for which everyone in the community may submit holiday-themed prompts. I’d also like to open it up to more than fic since we’ve had some awesome graphics posted here, so maybe allow fic, graphics, vids, etc, anything creative.

We could have the creations all due on a single day, have people sign up for a day to post their creation, or allow them to be posted as they’re create throughout December.

Please let me know what you think. All comments, suggestions and questions are welcome. (Smart remarks should be forwarded to [livejournal.com profile] true_enough. *g*)

First, thanks so much to [livejournal.com profile] true_enough for having enough faith in me to entrust me with this community, and thanks to everyone who’s welcomed me as the new mod and shown confidence in my abilities to run the community as well as [livejournal.com profile] true_enough did.

Now, on to the reason for the post, and to be honest, not much is new *g* but I’m a tinker-er by nature, so I had to play around with the comm a little bit.

Tags: I went through and made sure that all existing posts had been tagged, but thanks to [livejournal.com profile] true_enough, that task was pretty easy. I also added author/artist/vidder tags, all preceded by the [a] notation so they could be kept together and were easy to find amongst all the other tags. A list of all the tags can be found on the main page.

Profile: The main change is the format. (See above re: tinker-er.) Most of the information and rules have remained the same, it just looks different. *g*

Rules: There are very few, but the ones I’d like to emphasize at this time are the Subject Line and Header requirements, because they make it easier for folk viewing the community, and for me when tagging. If you’d like to refresh your memory on all the rules (all five of them *g*), check out the community profile.

Affiliates: If you’d like to affiliate with this community, please comment here.

Thank you all!

Hello Everyone!

Between overtime at work (six days a week) and plans to go back to school next month I found out the hard way that I'm not able to contribute to this comm the way that I would like to and the way that it deserves. I'm withdrawing as Mod and putting the comm in the more than capable hands of [livejournal.com profile] spikedluv who I'm sure you're familiar with from her wonderful stories and from [livejournal.com profile] smallfandomfest and [livejournal.com profile] smallfandomflsh. I hope you'll join me in giving her a warm welcome. She is a creative and enthusiastic fan as her work makes clear. I will be forever grateful that she joined this comm and then agreed to care for it. Thank you so much, [livejournal.com profile] spikedluv!

I'm not actually going anywhere ::grin:: but I'd still like to wish everyone only the best!
[identity profile] true-enough.livejournal.com
Please be mindful that the new rule applies to EVERYBODY and that I felt it was important enough to point out.

New Rule:

~ Be kind to fellow community members. If your personality dictates that you cannot post or comment without expressing your impatience, sarcasm or misplaced superiority then this comm is not for you. Please stay away or leave. You won't be missed.

In other words CHECK. YOUR. BEHAVIOR. Or fuck off. Do I need to be any clearer?
[identity profile] true-enough.livejournal.com
Shelter has reached out to a lot of people who have little or no experience with LJ and so I hope I can be of some help with using a cut tag. Usually if a post is more than a couple of paragraphs long a cut tag is used since a lot of people on LJ have 50, 100 or more people on their friends lists and long posts can seem overwhelming to keep scrolling through. I hope [livejournal.com profile] rendrag45 doesn't mind if I use her story as an example.

A LJ Cut Is Your Friend )

Thank you very much [livejournal.com profile] mickeym for your help!

Hey everyone!

I'm happy to see the fic and art (thank you [livejournal.com profile] keyweegirlie!) coming in for the First Time Challenge. I just wanted to let you know that I made a separate entry in Memories for the challenge and all the challenge fics will be found there. Enjoy!

ETA: There is also a tag: 2008 First Time Challenge.
